To use the story of a near fatality to open up conversations and awareness around the culture of safety.
This was an emotional subject requiring a sensitive approach to the filming, interviewing and the finished story. We told Andrew’s story, of a fork hoist crushing him, and the effect it had on him, his family and his co-workers. The video created enormous emotional engagement, which was then tied to important messages. The messages were not about blame, but rather about bringing everyone together to identify hazards, feel comfortable reporting risks, and creating a culture of proactivity and innovation around Health and Safety. The resulting video has brought people to tears and instigated a deep cultural shift. A by-product has been the response of overseas teams – they have understood the deep family culture within Mainfreight and are onboard with emulating it.
